HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston man who shot an armored car guard eight times during a 2013 attempted robbery has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

William Hendrick Williams was sentenced Thursday in Houston.

Williams last fall pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and two counts of interference with commerce by robbery.

The guard survived the October 2013 shooting when confronted outside a bank in Humble  while trying to fill an ATM. Williams fled without any cash.

Two other Houston men were sentenced to lesser prison terms for their roles in the attempted robbery.

Prosecutors say Williams also took part in an August 2013 armored car robbery and pointed a gun at a guard.
