GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — Authorities believe a body recovered in the Gulf of Mexico is a cruise ship passenger reported missing during a trip from Galveston.
Officials with Carnival Cruise Lines says Mexican authorities located the man’s body Wednesday morning.
The Miami-based cruise line says the Carnival Triumph on Tuesday night received a report of a 54-year-old passenger possibly going overboard. A Carnival statement says a review of security video confirmed the incident.
The ship initiated search and rescue operations in conjunction with Mexican authorities, who deployed vessels off the country’s northern coast.
Carnival authorities say formal identification was pending on the body. Officials had no immediate further details on the investigation.
The ship departed Saturday, with stops in Cozumel and Progreso, Mexico. The Carnival Triumph returns to Galveston on Thursday.
