UPDATED: Jadeveon Clowney Bitten By Teammate’s Dog

UPDATE 12:15pm:

DJ Swearinger has confirmed the dog is his via his official twitter account:

Pearland, TX (CBS Houston) – Plagued by injuries during his initial year in the NFL, Jadeveon Clowney can add another one to the list which already includes hernia surgery, a concussion, and eventually a knee injury requiring microfracture surgery.

SportsRadio 610 has learned that Clowney was bitten by teammate D.J. Swearinger’s pit bull last week. Police records obtained describe a bite to Clowney’s right arm that sent him to a Pearland emergency room. The incident occurred in the early morning of March 4th.

Swearinger’s dog broke the skin on the right arm of Clowney with the bite according to the report. Further investigation by the agency indicated the dog’s vaccinations are good until early April.
The bite was characterized to SportsRadio 610 by a member of the Pearland police department as a “minor bite” and no further medical information on Clowney was noted in the report.

Pearland PD was alerted to the incident by the emergency room Clowney visited as they are required to report animal bites. The call was placed at 1:44 am. The pit bull was issued a standard home quarantine by the city which is consistent with any incident involving a bite according to Pearland PD. Swearinger and his brother both agreed to the parameters of the quarantine according to the documents.

“Animal control handled it as a standard call,” said Lieutenant Patrick Savage. “Standard procedures were followed by our humane department and the animal control officer who went out there.”

The Texans do not have any comment at this time on the incident.

An update on Clowney’s knee surgery, which ended his rookie season early, was given by general manager Rick Smith in February at the NFL combine in Indianapolis.

“That training camp, first game of the season is within the normal context of what the time element for what we would expect from his recovery and he’s doing well,” Smith said.

He went on to add he thinks Clowney could be an “impactful” player for the team in 2015 but didn’t discuss a timeline for when he thought Clowney would accomplish that feat.

“The recovery process is an arduous process. We talk to him about that and how he would have to be diligent throughout that process. He’s doing well and we expect that he would hopefully make a full recovery and be able to help us next year.”
