Wade Phillips

SportsRadio 610

Good friend of the show Wade Phillips joined ‘In The Loop’ for Football Friday. Wade gives his thoughts on the final Texans preseason game. We also get his thoughts on the final cuts. Wade doesn’t think Case should make the team.

“After seeing last night’s game, both of them had an opportunity,” Wade told Nick & Lopez about Case Keenum and Tom Savage’s final preseason game. “You certainly can’t make a case for Keenum and the other guy (Savage) was savage as far as his play was concerned.”

Phillips, who was the Texans defensive coordinator and interim head coach last year compared the two to the back up battle the Texans faced last year.

“Last year we thought T.J. [Yates] and Keenum both had real strong preseasons. It’s not the case for the backup quarterback this year.”

The Texans will have to make a decision on who will be the guy behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, even if that guy isn’t on the roster right now.

“Both of them showed potential, but neither one has shown, well, this the guy we want to send in the ball game,” Phillips said. “I think it’s going to be dicey. It will be interesting to see if they look for a veteran quarterback, a backup.”

The Texans will have the first crack at any player put on the waiver wire after final cuts are made on Saturday. The Texans must take their roster down from 75 to 53 by 3pm CT. Anyone claimed off waivers will be followed by a move of another player off the 53 man roster.
