Boy Scouts Settles With Texas Ex-Scout In Sex Abuse Case

DALLAS (AP) — Attorneys for the Boy Scouts of America have reached a settlement with a former San Antonio Scout who says he was abused by his adult leader.

Paul Mones, an attorney for the former Scout, says the settlement noted in court filings Wednesday does not require BSA to turn over any more of its so-called perversion files, which it kept on internal complaints of abuse.

The Scouts have faced years of lawsuits over the files, a major part of an abuse scandal in Scouting’s ranks. A release of two decades of the files revealed hundreds of reports of sexual assault that were not turned over to law enforcement.

Mones declined to comment Thursday on the terms of the settlement.

BSA spokesman Deron Smith said Scouting was committed to preventing child abuse.
