Reward Offered In North Texas Flag Burnings Case

WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) β€” Authorities say a reward for information on who is behind a series of flag burning incidents in North Texas is up to $13,000, thanks to donations.

Weatherford police say officers have taken 16 reports about damaged, stolen or burned flags.

Police say the flags are taken from homes and then placed on driveways or streets, where an accelerant is used to burn them.

Area car dealerships have donated $11,000 to the Crime Stoppers reward fund in the case.

The incidents in the past week have occurred in various neighborhoods of Weatherford, about 30 miles west of Fort Worth.

Charges that could be filed in the case include destruction of a flag, a misdemeanor, and arson, a second-degree felony.
