Camp Confidential: Day 16 (8/14)
Houston (CBS Houston) – Editor’s Note: Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.
Here is what you need to know about today’s practice:
>>>Duane Brown did not practice. He was given the day off.
“We just gave him the day off today,” O’Brien said. “We’ll do that every now and then with guys like him. We’ll give them the day off.”
With Brown out, Derek Newton worked at left tackle and Tyson Clabo worked at right tackle.
>>>Arian Foster, Andre Johnson, Brian Cushing, and Jadeveon Clowney only participated in the individual drills. Foster spent some time getting his left ankle worked on but returned to practice.
“I still don’t know whether they will play or not,” O’Brien said about Foster, Johnson, and Cushing.”But I do believe they are closer to being full-time.”
>>>The Texans wrapped up their second day of practice with the Falcons. They practiced in just shells and didn’t tackle to the ground.
“Atlanta was a great team to work with,” O’Brien said. “Coach Smith was fantastic both days and we got a lot out of it.”
>>>After the 32-0 loss to the Cardinals, the Texans needed to put the losing feeling behind them. Practicing against another team right away helped them do that. O’Brien said it specifically helped Ryan Fitzpatrick.
“To be able to get out there right away and go against another defense and not our defense like we’ve been doing for 15 practices,” O’Brien said. “That’s a good thing for everybody. I thought (Fitzpatrick) came out and I thought he had two good days.”
>>>Travis Labhart continues to impress. He shined today catching multiple deep balls from Case Keenum. It’s getting harder and harder for him to not make the team. I’m not sure they could sneak him through to the practice squad.
>>>Things finally did get chippy. After a tough play on the ball Falcons CB Josh Wilson approached DeAndre Hopkins with some words. Hopkins didn’t take kindly to it and a quick shoving match broke out before Hopkins walked away.
>>>Jeoffrey Pagan left practice with an upper body injury.
>>>Kareem Jackson made a nice play in 11 on 11 drills intercepting Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
