Boy Accused In Occult Killing To Be Tried As Adult
HOUSTON (AP) — A Harris County judge has determined a 16-year-old boy will be tried as an adult in the slaying of a suburban Houston girl who prosecutors say was killed as part of a satanic ritual.
Victor Alas is charged with capital murder in the Feb. 5 death of 15-year-old Corriann Cervantes in a vacant apartment. If convicted as an adult, Alas faces a life sentence in prison and would be eligible for parole after 40 years.
Harris County prosecutor Martina Longoria says 17-year-old Jose E. Reyes also is charged with capital murder in the case and has a jury trial scheduled for Nov. 3.
Prosecutors allege Alas and Reyes sexually assaulted the girl and then killed her in an effort to make a deal with the devil.
