Pearland East Little League is one win away from a trip to the Little League World Series in Williamsport after defeating a team from Biloxi, Mississippi 12-6 Tuesday night at the Southwest Regional in Waco.
Little League games are six innings. Biloxi scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to close to the final six-run margin.
Pearland won all three of its’ pool play games, outscoring their opponents by a 40-6 margin. That included a 6-2 victory Monday over a Texas West squad from Northside Suburban in San Antonio. In the Regional opener, Pearland set a Regional record with 28 runs in a victory over Oklahoma.
South Lake Charles will be Pearland’s opponent Wednesday night in the championship game, after escaping with a 10-9 win over a team from New Mexico. Pearland defeated the Louisiana team 6-4 in pool play Sunday, scoring all six of the runs in the pivotal second inning.
The 12-year old’s had to win tournaments at the Area, District, Sectional and State rounds before advancing to the eight team Regional. Two Texas teams, East and West, were part of the tournament along with squads from Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arkansas and Mississippi. Pearland is 14-0 throughout their all-star run.
Wednesday’s game with Lake Charles will be played at 6:00 p.m. and televised live on the Longhorn Network
