MUSKOGEE, Okla. (CBS Houston) – A woman was found alive after being trapped in her car in a ditch for eight days.
WXXA-TV reports that Kay Springer, 62, became disoriented in the middle of running errands. Her car got stuck in mud along the Arkansas River below Highway 62. Her only way out was up steep embankments and she did not think she would be able to climb up.
“People ask me if I was afraid. Well, I didn’t have the brain capacity to be afraid,” Springer told WXXA.
Springer was eventually found and went to see doctors to determine why she got lost. It turns out her cancer came back.
“The tumor came back and swelled up and just knocked me out,” Springer told the station.
Springer had a rough go being stranded. According to WXXA, her inhaler ran out on the first day and she did not have much food or water with her. She started to hallucinate and saw movie stars, rescue workers, and her own children.
“I could see the exit. I could see the road. I could see the trucks going by,” Springer said.
After eight long days, a fisherman finally saw Springer from the river.
“And I thought OK, is this guy real? Is he my miracle?” Springer told WXXA. “I was not going to die down there. I’d have sat there forever. I was not going to die.”
Springer had the tumor removed. WXXA reports that doctors were able to remove all of it this time.
She is currently getting radiation and his home spending time with her four grandchildren.
