Appel’s Bullpen Session Angers Big League Players
Houston (CBS Houston)-Despite struggles throughout the season the 2013 number one overall pick is getting a promotion. Mark Appel is headed to Class AA Corpus Christi after his latest start in the organization’s Lancaster affiliate. Appel has posted a 9.74 ERA after 12 starts for the JetHawks.
Before he heads south to the Hooks, Appel stopped by Minute Maid Park to throw for members of the organization.
The former number one overall pick’s appearance around the clubhouse and bullpen didn’t sit well with the current big league players.
The promotion comes after one of Appel’s more successful starts where he earned his second win after pitching six innings and striking out seven. The promotion seemingly couldn’t have come soon enough for Appel. He told the Houston Chronicle recently about his time at Lancaster that “It’s been the worst experience of my life.”
It probably couldn’t come at a better time for Corpus Christie either. If Appel can continue to improve on his most recent start he would help the Hooks immediately. The team has lost six of their last seven games.
