Deputies: Male Teacher Exposed 16-Year-Old Boy To AIDS Virus After Having Sex With Him
HOUMA, La. (CBS Houston) — A teacher is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student and exposing him to the AIDS virus.
Derrick Nesby, 37, a teacher at H.L. Bourgeois High School, was arrested by Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s deputies last Wednesday, WWL-TV reports.
Authorities say that Nesby, who is HIV positive, had sex with the boy at school and exposed him to the AIDS virus without the student’s knowledge.
“We can establish the fact that there was an encounter that happened,” Malcolm Wolfe, the parish’s chief of detectives, told WWL.
The alleged relationship began during the past school year. Nesby has been a teacher at the high school for only a year.
“We continued our investigation where we established more evidence that something did happen, and at that point we got a warrant for his arrest,” Wolfe told WWL.
Nesby has been charged with intentional exposure of the AIDS virus and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and is being held on $1 million bond. Each charge carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
