Man Dies In Killer Bee Attack
SAN ANTONIO (CBS Houston) – A man working for a fence company died after the crew hit a nest of killer bees near San Antonio, reports WTKR-TV.
Aaron Turner, 30, a native of Virginia Beach, died from anaphylaxis and envenomation due to insect stings, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner.
His mother, Sonja Turner, says she was shocked when she got a phone call about his death.
“It was unbelievable. All I could do was drop the phone and scream and holler, ‘Not my child!’” she said. “I can’t eat, all I can think about it my son laying there with 1000 bees on him.”
He was working for Oklahoma-based fencing company Lohmann Fencing in San Antonio.
Turner tells the station the owner of the company called her with the tragic news.
“He told me Aaron and another guy were working on the fence, they hit a bee nest and a swarm of bees came up like a big old fire. Aaron ran into where they were coming from,” she told WTKR. “All he could do was fall to his knees because at that time they had already attacked him.”
Aaron Turner had come to Texas on a football scholarship and had even played a few arena football games.
The family is working on bringing him back to Virginia Beach for his funeral.
