CBS Radio (HOUSTON) – Women’s soccer is alive and well in Houston!
The Houston Dash played their first game at BBVA Compass Stadium in front of over 8,000 enthusiastic fans this Saturday, and, despite a tough loss ( 0-1), the team showed that they can easily become one of the top teams in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The Dash held the NWSL Champs, Portland Thorns, to one goal by Allie Long in the ’24min and had control of the ball throughout most of the game, despite not having anything to show for it. The Dash, had a chance to tie the game in stoppage time but the goal was called offside.
This match is sure a promising start for the Houston Dash, with not only the amazing support they got from the fans, but the ladies showed that the talent is definitely there. This team has speed, they can attack, defend, and they play well all over the field.
For now the young team needs to focus on controlling the ball, following through and finding each other and the net, especially in key situations. But, having only a month of playing together as a team, and after seeing tonight’s game, I have no doubt the ladies will be able to achieve this in a short time.
If you are soccer lover, you should come watch the Houston Dash. You won’t be disappointed. These ladies have all it takes to be one of the dominate teams in the NWSL.
The Dash is the league’s the ninth club and first expansion team for the 2014 season.
