Police: 80-Year-Old Man Shoots Neighbor’s Dog For Pooping In Yard
HOUSTON, Texas (CBS Houston) – Police arrested an 80-year-old man after he allegedly shot his neighbor’s dog for pooping in his yard.
Emma Adderley told KHOU that her neighbor, Joe Richard, was tired of her dog named Betsy going to the bathroom in his yard.
“Poor Betsy,” Adderley said. “She would run and go across and maybe smell a little bit. But she wasn’t doing her business in his yard.”
Adderley wasn’t feeling well Monday morning so her son, Terrance Ferguson, took Betsy, a 13-pound mixed breed puppy, outside to run around.
Ferguson said it wasn’t a secret that Richard didn’t like dogs, but he didn’t expect him to cause them harm.
“If he sees a dog coming towards his house, he’ll get a brick and hide behind the wall,” explained Ferguson.
Ferguson said he saw Richard with a shotgun in his garage, but he walked back into the house and left Betsy outside. When he got in the house, he heard the shotgun go off.
“I hear pow,” Ferguson said. “So I came back quick and I look, and the dog was already coming towards me full of blood.”
Adderley called the police and Richard was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
“This dog is innocent,” Adderley shared. “He’s a friendly little pet. He can’t harm nobody.”
