SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio police are seeking a vehicle theft suspect who was handcuffed but managed to steal a patrol SUV and flee.

Police say the patrol vehicle was found abandoned later Monday afternoon and 40-year-old Andrew Davila was gone.

Davila was initially detained while driving a truck that was reported stolen.

Sgt. Javier Salazar says Davila’s hands were restrained behind his back but he managed to get the cuffs to the front of his body, slip through a window in a partition and reach the patrol vehicle’s front seat.

Officers were working the scene when Davila drove away. The stolen patrol SUV was tracked via GPS to an intersection but Davila was gone.

A woman who was with Davila in the original stolen vehicle has been detained.
