HOUSTON (AP) — Investigators in Houston say a man who faked being a legal consultant has been charged with stealing more than $100,000 from an unsuspecting client.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is asking other potential victims to contact officers if they’ve had dealings with 34-year-old Jeffrey Wayne Wilson.

Jail records show Wilson was being held without bond Thursday on theft and credit/debit card abuse charges. Online records do not list an attorney for Wilson, who was booked Wednesday.

Authorities say Wilson pretended to be a consultant for a now-defunct law firm and charged thousands of dollars for work not done or legal tasks he’s not authorized to perform.

Investigators say a woman who was scammed out of at least $100,000 discovered Wilson used her debit card for his personal shopping.
