Houston (CBS Houston) – With less than 24 hours until tight end Garrett Graham will become an unrestricted free agent, there’s still a possibility the Texans could prevent him from hitting the market.
Graham was at Andre Johnson’s Inaugural Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Golf Club of Houston on Wednesday. There he told reporters that he wasn’t sure if something would get done before 3:00pm central time on Tuesday, when free agency opens.
“I think it’ll be close if something does get done before whenever that deadline is 3:00 or 4:00,” Graham said. “It (would) be nice to stay in Houston but then again, you know it’s business and we’ll see.”
Graham said the Texans haven’t let him know if resigning him is a ‘priority’. The 27-year old caught 49 passes for 545 yards last season. He also added five touchdown receptions.
Several teams have been linked to Graham, including the Green Bay Packers, but he has yet to schedule any visits.
“I know there’s several teams who inquired about it and asked about it, but nothing set up as of yet,” Graham said. “I just kind of leave it to my agent and let him handle the whole thing.”
Tight end Owen Daniels, who could be a cap casualty, is hoping Graham returns next season.
“We both think we have a good thing going with us and Ryan Griffin,” Daniels said. “We think we’ve got a pretty good group together and we’d like to keep it that way.”
