HOUSTON (AP) — A Romanian-born Texas fugitive wanted for the shooting deaths of his wife and their son at the family’s Houston-area home has been extradited to the U.S.
Camil Matase was booked Friday into the Harris County jail where he’s being held without bond on a charge of capital murder. The Houston Chronicle reports he’s scheduled to appear in court either Tuesday or Wednesday.
The 48-year-old Matase was apprehended in eastern Romania on Nov. 20. A court there ruled last month in favor of an FBI request that he be extradited.
Authorities said the bodies of 47-year-old Emilia Matase and 26-year-old Emanuel Matase were discovered in their home Nov. 14.
Matase told Romanian prosecutors that he suspected his wife was consorting with people who were involved in drug trafficking and prostitution.
