FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A man showing a handgun to friends in North Texas fired the weapon without realizing it was loaded and struck a 14-year-old boy in the head, killing him.
Fort Worth police say a group of people had gathered late Thursday evening at a home when the 24-year-old man pulled out the firearm. He shot it once, striking the boy above the eye. The teen was transported to a hospital where he died.
The unidentified man ran from the home but later called police to report the shooting. He was in custody Friday being questioned by police. Charges are pending.
Police told KXAS-TV in Fort Worth that the man and teen were acquaintances and that neither lived at the home where the shooting occurred.
