Houston (CBS Houston) – Wade Phillips took to the podium on Monday for the first time since Gary Kubiak was fired. The first order of business for the Texans interim head coach, get them to loosen up.

“The team is a little bit uptight to me.” Phillips said. “I think (they) can loosen up a little bit.”

The Texans are winless in their last eleven games and he thinks the stress of the franchise record losing streak has caught up to them.

“All the pressure has been on them, they put it on themselves, we put it on ourselves,” Phillips said. “We just got to go play now.”

“You start wanting to play perfect, you start to play uptight and I don’t think we didn’t have no fun (sic) in a long time.” Antonio Smith said.

Bob McNair called the final three games an ‘evaluation’ period for not only the players but the coaches as well. McNair also said Phillips will be a candidate for the permanent job.

“I think I have something to give,” Phillips said. “If you look at the record, I think I have a lot to offer as a head coach”
