HOUSTON (AP) — A former Houston banker has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing $340,000 from accounts he opened using the names of family and friends.

A federal judge in Houston on Wednesday sentenced 39-year-old Shawn Nelson. The former executive at Members Choice Credit Union in June pleaded guilty to embezzlement. Nelson must also repay the money.

Prosecutors say Nelson from 2001 through 2010 opened the unauthorized funded accounts and then withdrew the money.

Nelson remains free on bond until a date is set for him to report to prison.
