SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Investigators say a gunman at a Central Texas business took a woman hostage and fled in a chase that ended in a neighboring county as he fired at officers.

The Comal (KOH’-mal) County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately say whether anyone was hurt Friday or the status of the hostage and the suspect.

Officers around 1 a.m. CST Friday responded to a report of a man with a gun at a business in Bulverde (bol-VER’-dee), just north of San Antonio. Authorities say the gunman took a woman hostage and the pursuit began.

The chase on Highway 46 toward Canyon Lake eventually led to San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin, as the suspect fired at officers several times. The chase ended in southeast Hays County.

Further details weren’t immediately released.
