CARROLLTON, TEXAS (AP) — Dallas-area police are searching for a fake officer who stopped a driver on Interstate 35 and raped her in his vehicle in a daytime attack.

Carrollton police on Wednesday announced the search for a man last seen driving a dark Ford Crown Victoria, a vehicle commonly used by law enforcement.

Cmdr. Doug Mitchell says the sexual assault happened around midmorning Nov. 21. The victim was stopped by a bearded man wearing a dark blue uniform and sunglasses. Mitchell says the man also had a gold-star badge, a police-style belt and displayed a baton and handcuffs.

Mitchells says the police impersonator handcuffed the woman, put her in the back of his vehicle and attacked her.

Police didn’t immediately provide details on how the woman escaped to report the crime.
