HOUSTON (AP) — Longtime fans of the Houston Astrodome are getting ready to buy the iconic stadium. Well, at least pieces of it.
A “yard sale” and auction will be held Saturday for anyone wanting to buy a memento from the stadium once dubbed the “eighth wonder of the world.” The sale will be at Reliant Center, adjacent to the aging Astrodome.
Some items, like small sections of AstroTurf and pairs of stadium seats, will be sold at fixed prices. Larger items, including autographed lockers and dugout benches, will be auctioned off.
Proceeds will go toward the Astrodome renovation project.
Harris County voters will decide on Tuesday whether to approve a referendum authorizing up to $217 million to turn the stadium into a convention center and exhibition space.
