PLANO, Texas (AP) — Supporters of a 17-year-old developmentally disabled student who received threatening messages at her North Texas high school have rallied around her with the color green.

A handful of fans wore green T-shirts at Friday night’s football game between Plano West and Plano. The “I’m with Shea” shirts honored Shea Shawhan, who received a series of graphic and violent text messages, including one that read “kill urself.”

Police have arrested a teen on a harassment charge in connection with the bullying.

Shawhan suffered a brain injury due to complications at birth. She faces seizures and has impaired development.

Shawhan’s mother, Terri Riddell, said the treatment of her daughter has turned into a larger conversation about bullying.

Plano defeated Plano West, 24-7.
