LIVINGSTON, Texas (AP) — A state district judge in East Texas has resigned following accusations that she used text messages to coach a prosecutor, displayed a prejudice against some attorneys and met with jurors who were deliberating criminal trials.

Elizabeth E. Coker did not admit to guilt or fault as part of her agreement with the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. The commission announced Monday that Coker has taken an immediate leave of absence and will resign.

Coker oversaw proceedings in Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity counties. The commission says Coker sent texts to prosecutors to help them build their case against a man on trial for injuring a child.

In addition to other allegations, the commission contends Coker “may not have been candid and truthful” in testimony before the panel last week.
