Houston (CBS Houston)– The Houston Texans announced Thursday Case Keenum will start against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Many Texans’ fans have reacted with excitement and hopefulness, but as this 2-4 team turns a page, for a least one given Sunday, it’s the player’s response that will matter most through this challenging transition.

It was veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson that started off the feedback by saying the young quarterback brings excitement to this team.

“He’s excited about being out on the football field,” Johnson said. “Even if you watch some of the things he did during the preseason when he threw touchdown passes he was celebrating, running, and going crazy. He just has that thing about him and it’s a good thing.  Like I said we’ll rally behind him and get ready for Sunday.”

The “excitement” comment seemed to be the common theme around the locker-room and even the coaching staff echoed the same sentiment.

“He (Keenum) continues to grow, and we’re struggling and looking for a spark,” Kubiak said. “I think he deserves an opportunity to go out there.”

DeVier Posey, another one of Keenum’s weapons, used the same term as defensive coordinator Wade Phillips when describing Keenum having “moxie.”

“He just has that natural moxie,” Posey said. “There’s a reason why he has those numbers in college, he was the guy throwing those balls. He prepares each week. No one’s nervous and we’re ready to get behind him.”

Even the man who challenged Keenum for this starting position said Kubiak told him that he was going “on a gut feeling” and that the team needed “a spark.”

“As you can imagine I wasn’t exactly happy about it,” Yates said. “It’s Kube’s decision. Support Case and do whatever I need to do to help him out and help this team get a win.”

For the first time in a long time I agree.  Who knows where this 2-4 team is headed, but something needed to change. And being at Reliant throughout the week it’s refreshing to see this team have that “excitement and a spark.”
