Houston (CBS Houston) – Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak gave an injury update Thursday afternoon after practice.

“I hope Keshawn (Martin) practices some tomorrow,” Kubiak said. “If he doesn’t, then Shiloh (Keo) will return punts and Danieal Manning is ready to back and return kicks.”

Martin hasn’t participated in practice this week due to a shoulder injury in Sunday’s 34-3 loss in San Francisco and Martin is also ranked number 1 in kick returns.

Another wide receiver and main weapon for quarterback Matt Schaub missed practice again. Veteran Andre Johnson is now considered a game-time decision.

“He’s just very sore coming off that Baltimore injury, Kubiak said. “He’s been pushing through it for us; it’s just a tough thing to work through. We’re basically giving him Wednesday and Thursdays, getting him going on Fridays and trying to get to game-day.”

Johnson’s shin injury, which he received in the third week against the Baltimore Ravens, seems to be nagging but him missing Wednesday and Thursday’s practice also seems like an opportunity to rest a much needed offensive weapon.

“I would definitely think so,” Kubiak on Andre being a game-time decision. “I might feel different about that tomorrow after I watch him move around but the process we’re going through, I think we have to assume that”

Later Thursday afternoon, the Texans announced that right guard Brandon Brooks will be back Sunday from a toe injury that he suffered against Seattle.

“I feel good,” Brooks said. “It feels real good to get back out there. That’s probably the toughest thing, missing last week. It hurt me a lot to see those guys go out there and battle.”

Four games into the 2013 season, Brooks ranks 40th among 70 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus’ guard ratings.
