Mike Meltser’s Week 4 CFB Picks
Last week = 2-1
Overall = 4-6
UL Lafayette -7 at Akron – I’m taking a chance that Akron isn’t nearly as good as they appeared last week, falling at the every end of the game at Michigan. Akron has been awful for the last 3 years. After a heartbreaking loss like that one, I expect a mental letdown. Obviously, it could go the opposite way, but I’m going to bet on the letdown. UL had losses to Arkansas and Kansas State to open the season, but I think that’s a solid team.
Stanford -6 vs Arizona State – This has been underreported, but Stanford hasn’t been that great to start the season. They opened with a bye week, then beat San Jose State by 21, and got by Army (on the road) by only 14. David Shaw’s team has yet to put together a really complete game. The Sun Devils are lucky the refs last week screwed up the end of that Wisconsin game, otherwise they would have likely lost. This game is in Palo Alto, and I believe the Cardinal can cover the 6 points.
Tulane +17 at Syracuse – I know that the Orange hammered Wagner for the first win in the Scott Shafer era, but they still haven’t proven anything against a legitimate team. I think the spread is a touch high. SU should win, but this will be the first legit test for QB Terrel Hunt. Tulane is 2-1 with a road win at Louisiana Tech. I think this will be more of a 10-14 point game.
