TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Nick Saban isn’t exactly lavishing praise on Alabama’s performance in a memorable win over Texas A&M.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide’s coach praised his team’s “competitive character” Monday and says Alabama played “halfway decent” in the middle of the game between early and late lapses.

Two days after the 49-42 victory over the No. 10 Aggies, Saban and Alabama players appear to have made a quick descent from Cloud 9.

Saban says the key question is, “Where do we go from here?” He says Alabama won’t reach its goals without considerable improvement.

The defense in particular gave up 628 yards, the most ever allowed by the Tide. But safety Vinnie Sunseri and cornerback Cyrus Jones both had key interceptions, too.

Alabama plays Colorado State on Saturday in its first home game.
