Houston (CBS Houston) – The preseason long battle between T.J. Yates and Case Keenum has finally come to an end. On Thursday Texans’ head coach Gary Kubiak named T.J. Yates his backup quarterback.
“We are going into this season with T.J. (Yates) starting as our two” said Kubiak. “I couldn’t have made a wrong decision they both played so well.”
Kubiak made sure to point out Yates could still be overtaken.
“It doesn’t mean we’re set for the season so it will be a very competitive environment but that’s the way we will get started.” said Kubaik.
Keenum broke the Texans’ preseason passing record with 482 yards but it wasn’t enough to secure the number two spot. It did however earn Keenum a spot on the Texans 53-man roster.
