HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – The Houston Texans have signed tackle Nate Menkin to the practice squad, Wednesday.
Menkin, 24, was released by the Texans last week in order to trim their roster down to the final 53. With Wade Smith being questionable for Monday night’s season opener against the Chargers and rookie David Quessenberry’s injury Wednesday afternoon, the move deemed necessary and probable to bring Menkin back.
The Texans acquired Menkin from Philadelphia in exchange for receiver Jeff Maehl earlier in the offseason to address the offensive line’s lack of depth.
Menkin, who is from Mary Hardin-Baylor, can play both guard and tackle.
The Texans have released inside linebacker Mike Mohamed.
