Houston (CBS Houston) – Ed Reed’s recovery from hip surgery has been well chronicled throughout this offseason. Tuesday brought with it a positive step in his return. Reed practiced with the team for the first time since signing in March.

“Ed was out there, he looked pretty good moving around.” said Danieal Manning, the man who will line up next to Reed when he returns. Manning also added that he was preparing as if Ed Reed would play Monday night against San Diego but if he didn’t Shiloh Keo would do a great job in his place.

To what extent Reed participated in practice is a little cloudy. He did do some work with the defensive backs as well as limited work with the entire team, something Kareem Jackson was excited to see.

“It feels good for him to be out there, it’s the first time (for him) to really be out there and kind of working with us.” said Jackson.

Even Andre Johnson, Reed’s close friend and fellow Miami Hurricane, struck an optimistic tone.

“I don’t think that if he wasn’t feeling well he wouldn’t be out there (practicing)” said Johnson.
