A nod to the Texans depth came in the form of two of the players cut by the team, being claimed off waivers by other NFL franchises.
The Browns have bolstered their thin running backs corps by claiming Bobby Rainey and Dennis Johnson off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, respectively. The Texans waived Johnson, 23, on Friday. The Browns claimed him Sunday, a move first reported by CBS Sports.
The 5-7, 193-pound Johnson, an undrafted rookie from the University of Arkansas, finished the preseason with 33 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown to go along with five catches for 31 yards. He also lost two fumbles.
The Buccaneers have also claimed ex-Texans defensive tackle Chris Jones the club said Sunday.
The 23-year-old Jones was a sixth-round pick of the Texans in April. He had three tackles and a half-sack in the Texans’ preseason finale vs. Dallas. Houston waived Jones on Saturday.
