Houston (CBS Houston) – The Buffalo Bills announced the signing of former Houston Texans’ backup quarterback Matt Leinart, Sunday.
Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Monday that the Bills will start Jeff Tuel against New England while E.J. Manuel continues recovering from knee surgery and Kevin Kolb deals with a concussion.
Choosing Tuel, an undrafted rookie, over the newly signed Leinart makes sense because Tuel has more experience with this offense.
Leinart played in only two games for the Raiders last season, but Oakland decided to ride with Terrelle Pryor for the end of the 2012 season.
He spent the two seasons before as Matt Schaub’s backup for the Texans. He did get a start in 2011 for the Texans when Schaub went down with a foot injury. Unfortunately for Leinart he broke his collarbone and that’s when Texans fans were introduced to T.J. Yates.
