Houston (CBS Houston)- Houston Astros Catcher, Jason Castro has just been named the American League Player of the Week for August 19-25.
This is the second time this season Castro receives the honor. He was named player of the week of May 20th-26th.
Castro led the league in batting average, extra-base hits, OBP and SLG. This week he hit .529 (9×17) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs and five RBIS with a .619 on-base-pct, a 1.294 slugging pct. and a 1.913 OPS.
Castro is the first Astros catcher to win the award twice in the same season in franchise history and the first ‘Stros player to win twice in the same season since Lance Berkman did so in 2008.
