Houston (CBS Houston) – University of Houston’s Deontay Greenberry was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List announced Wednesday at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce East Texas Kickoff Luncheon.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in FBS football. In addition, the winner must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year college.

The award also recognizes the top offensive player in football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

The Houston sophomore last fall, lead all Conference USA freshmen with 47 receptions for 569 yards and three touchdowns last season.

Greenberry, 6-3, 198, wide receiver, uses his hands and size to dominate smaller corners and has become a deep threat for the Cougars.

The Tyler Rose Watch List will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to four finalists in December.
