BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — A 12-foot Burmese python and a boa constrictor have been confiscated from a rental house in Southeast Texas where neighbors complained about roaming reptiles.

Beaumont Animal Services personnel on Monday afternoon seized a dozen snakes, along with some rats and rabbits.

Officer Joe Ornelas says the snakes and other animals were removed because they weren’t safe in the house.

Police say several snakes recently escaped from the house, slithered to a nearby street and were run over. Snakes were also spotted in the yard.

A judge will consider whether the creatures should be returned to the owners. No charges were immediately filed.
