LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — A West Texas man faces up to life in prison for the fatal beating of his cousin as the men argued about their wives — who are sisters.

A jury in Lubbock on Thursday will consider the penalty for 24-year-old Danny Ray Martinez.

Jurors on Wednesday convicted Martinez of murder in a December fight that led to the death of 34-year-old Eddie Moreno. Police say Moreno suffered head trauma during a fight with Martinez after both men had been drinking.

A Lubbock police report says Moreno apparently was upset with his wife and attacked her at a residence. Moreno allegedly then cursed at his cousin’s wife for trying to check on her sister.

Martinez told police he was mad that his wife was cursed out by Moreno.
