Houston (CBS Houston) - Editor’s Note:Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.
Texans training camp wrapped up today with one morning session. Here is what you need to know:
>>> The first string will play “about a quarter” against the Dolphins Saturday night.
>>> No updates on the status of running back Arian Foster (sore back) or left guard Wade Smith (bruised knee).
>>> With Smith out, guard Ben Jones and tackle David Quessenberry have been getting equal reps in the Pro Bowler’s slot.
>>> Safety Shiloh Keo will be first to return punts Saturday against the Dolphins.
“Whenever I get the ball in my hands I’m looking to do something with it,” said Keo. “I came up short last week with that pick and I was a little frustrated with that, so this is going to be another opportunity for me.”
>>> Cornerbacks Brandon Harris and Roc Carmichael are entering their 3rd seasons with the Texans
>>> Today marked Head Coach Gary Kubiak’s 52nd birthday. Quarterback Matt Schaub called on the rookies to sing him a birthday song. Kubiak was impressed.
“That actually was the most creative song that they’ve had in a while, so they did a good job,” said Kubiak. “It had a beat to it, wasn’t your traditional birthday song.”
So where did it ranked compared to other training camp birthday celebrations?
“That was the tops,” said Kubiak “That was a good one. That and the day Ephraim Salaam threw a cake at me.”
