Vikings vs. Texans ended in a win for the Houston Texans 27 to 13 and while it was mainly a show case for the younger talent, we were also able to sneak a peek at Kicker Randy Bullock. Last season Bullock missed the whole regular season with a groin tear. The team in 2012 used a 5 round pick on Bullock making him the 1st ever place kicker drafted by the team. He entered that season with veteran kicker Shayne Graham pushing him, but now has 0 competition this year.
The position this year, win, lose or draw is his and his alone. When asked about his lack of competition he mentioned Rookie punter Andrew Shapiro helps him keep fresh, but also he said “I like getting all the reps I can right now” and also finished up with “to get ready for week one”
While getting ready for week one against the San Diego Chargers, enter preseason game one against the Vikings. Bullock was nearly flawless, going 3 for 3 on extra points and 2 for 3 on field goals and only twice kicked the ball less than 65 yards on kickoffs. The missed 54 yard FG was the lone blemish, which ruined Randy’s return to “live action” football. Fans and people alike where disappointed to see a missed 54 yarder, and in a dome no less. Bullock knows he can make that kick “I have plenty of leg to do that” but he felt the something on the logo kept him from a clean kick.
No doubt, Me, you, Randy and Coach Kubiak were all disappointed in the lone miss but it’s one game, nobody goes a career flawless. Nobody wants to make up more for that miss then Randy Bullock, people calm down and lets watch the kid that coach has giving the job too and handpicked in the 5th round.
