The battle for the back-up job to Matt Schaub is heating up and Case Keenum has taken the lead, at least for Saturday.

Head Coach Gary Kubiak said that Keenum will take the reigns for the Texans against the Miami Dolphins after Matt Schaub is done playing. T.J. Yates will follow Keenum during the Texans second pre-season game.

It has more to do with just switching things up with the QB’s then who gets reps with the second string line, Kubiak pointed out.

“He played a lot with the twos last week, too,” The head coach said. “Our second offensive line played probably two and a half quarters of the game last week. So, Case kind of played with both groups.”

The second year quarterback has never appeared in a regular season NFL game. His competition, T.J. Yates, has played in 10 regular season NFL games and started both Post Season games for the Texans in 2011.

Kubiak also mentioned that Deji Karim will get some snaps backing up #2 running back Ben Tate.
