Houston (CBS Houston) - Editor’s Note:Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.
Here is what you need to know about today’s practice.
>>>DeVier Posey could return to the active roster as soon as next week and could be available for game action in the preseason.
“We’re very close to pulling him off the PUP after this game and hopefully he’s back out here working next week.” said Gary Kubiak
If he isn’t ready next week, he will be ready for week one against San Diego.
“That’s about three weeks away, and that would be pushing close to eight months, so definitely, no doubt (I’ll be ready to play). My doctor who did my surgery is comfortable with that date.” Posey told Sports Radio 610.
Posey’s improving health puts Lestar Jean and Alan Bonner on notice. With Posey not on the PUP list, the Texans would have to decide to either keep six wide receivers, or part ways with Jean or Bonner.
>>>Matt Schaub returned to practice after missing two days because of the passing of his grandfather.
“He was always there, always supportive, the first one I would talk to when I got home from games when I was growing up.” said Schaub
>>>Ben Jones left practice after becoming sick. David Quessenberry saw an increased role in his absence. It’s a golden opportunity for Quessenberry who’s already had a great camp.
“The coaching staff here, they really give great opportunities to all the rookies, and me especially being a versatile offensive lineman.” Quessenberry told Sports Radio 610.
>>>The newest Texan, Nate Menkin, went through his first practice since being traded for Jeff Maehl.
>>>Case Keenum had plenty of support today. The entire University of Houston football team showed up to watch practice. The battle between Yates and Keenum continues to play out.
“The both of them are progressing well, under Kubes tutelage and all that, I mean he’s been around a long time. (He’s) a great coach. I think he knows exactly what he wants his quarterbacks to be,” Danieal Manning told Sports Radio 610.
