FBI Seeks Information About Deceased Serial Killer
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) On Tuesday morning, The FBI released information about their intention in obtaining information about now deceased serial killer Israel Keyes who spent time in several Texas cities including Houston, Humble and Shepherd.
The FBI believes that Keyes committed at least eleven kidnappings and murders across the country between 2001 and March 2012. “Keyes committed suicide while in custody in Anchorage, Alaska, after confessing to being a serial killer, on December 2, 2012,” added officials with the FBI.
The FBI is working to identify the extent of Keyes’ travels and activities during his travels across the country and Texas. “Despite Keyes’ denial, investigators believe Keyes may be responsible for a homicide in Texas or a surrounding state, and is seeking the public’s assistance specifically as it pertains to the following locations during the time period of February 12 through March 13, 2012,” stated FBI officials.
As they work to gather information about Keys, the FBI stated that on February 12, 2012, Keyes rented a blue 2011 Kia Soul from a Houston car rental agency and had the vehicle until February 18, 2012. According to rental records,2847 miles were logged in the time period. “In addition to Keyes’ time in Houston, investigators suspect he spent a large part of his time in the Dallas area, where his family lived,” added FBI authorities.
The following provides details of Keys’ activities in various Texas cities, as stated by the FBI:
1. Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas
During February 2012, Keyes admitted traveling through the cities of Azle, Aledo, and Cleburne, Texas. Investigators suspect Keyes’ rental vehicle became stuck in a muddy, rural area, possibly near Cleburne, Texas, between February 12 and 16, 2012.
2. Glen Rose, Texas Area
Keyes is also suspected of visiting the Post Oak Cemetery in the Glen Rose, Texas, area between February 12 and 16, 2012.
3. Shepherd, Texas
On March 8, 2012, Keyes withdrew cash from an ATM at the Peoples State Bank in Shepherd, Texas.
4. Humble, Texas
On March 10, 2012, Keyes withdrew cash from an ATM at the Humble Community Bank in Humble, Texas.
5. Lufkin, Texas
On March 13, 2012, Keyes was arrested for Access Device Fraud, related to using an ATM card of Anchorage murder victim Samantha Koenig. At the time of his arrest, Keyes had three telephone numbers in his possession. Investigators determined the numbers were of prostitutes – all from the Houston area.
