HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A baby was left at a Harris County Fire Station Monday morning.
The incident happened just after 10 a.m. at Fire Station 39 located in the 5800 block of Pickfair.
According to reports, the child was left in a stroller under a sign that says “Safe Baby Site.” Firefighters heard the baby boy crying and then went outside. Houston police officers were called to the scene and the infant was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. Additional reports indicated that Child Protective Service officials planned to meet the infant at the hospital.
In Texas, the Baby Moses Law gives immunity to parents/guardians who surrender unwanted infants less than 60 days old at fire stations and hospitals.
The Baby Moses Law is also referred to as the Safe-Haven Law. The state of Texas was the first state to enact the law back in 1999.
