Houston (CBS Houston) - Editor’s Note: Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.

>>>Matt Schaub will start on Friday and most likely play for one series. After that, T.J. Yates and Case Keenum will both get reps with the 2s and 3s. Kubiak wants them to split time working with both units so he can evaluate them evenly.

>>>Sam Montgomery did his most extensive work since day one of camp working on the scout team in 11 on 11 drills. He will not play this Friday.

“I’ve learned so much from the sidelines, from my rookie teammates and you know the older teammates and coaches. So I (have) just been soaking it up like a sponge.” Montgomery told Sports Radio 610

>>>Wade Smith did not practice. He’s entering his 12th year in the league and Gary Kubiak wants to take it easy on him as a precaution.

“He wants to go, it’s kinda of us saying no, it (helps) us get these young guys ready to play.” said Kubiak

>>>Brandon Harris did not practice and will not make the trip to Minnesota for Friday’s game.

>>>Ben Tate moved well throughout practice. Expect him to get the start in Minnesota even if it’ s only for one series.

>>>As many as 20 players won’t make the trip to Minnesota meaning the younger players will get a lot of opportunities. Keep and eye on Dennis Johnson, Cierre Wood, Deji Kareem, and Ray Graham as they battle it out for the third spot. Johnson has been the bright spot so far but that can easily change with a strong performance from someone else in game action.

>>>Brennan Williams did not practice but hopes to return once the team gets back from Minnesota.

>>>The Texans have released an unofficial depth chart for their trip to the Metrodome. Click to enlarge.
