HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Two children died Sunday after being pulled from a bayou. Divers continued their search for their uncle after he attempted to rescue them from drowning. The bodies of the two children were recovered from Sims Bayou in south Houston, according to officials.
The Houston Fire Department stated that a family was fishing just after 11 a.m. Three children, ages 5 to 11, were playing in the shallow part of the bayou.
One of the children slipped into the deeper part of the water and began to struggle. That child’s brother then tried to rescue him, but began to struggle as well. The uncle of both of the children then tried to rescue both of the children.
At the time of this report, the children’s uncle was still missing in the bayou. While the uncle was trying to rescue the two boys, who struggled earlier, the man’s 5-year-old niece went under as well.
One of the boys and the girl were pulled to shore; the second brother climbed out on his own.
Medical officials began CPR on the two children, who were later taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Later, both children were pronounced dead. There were no other details released at the time of this report.
