HOUSTON (CBS Houston) As a result of a fire early Friday, at least two businesses were destroyed.

According to reports, a laundromat and a hair salon southwest of downtown were engulfed in flames during the early-morning blaze Friday.

Firefighters were still battling flames inside the strip center several hours after it began.

Both businesses were apart of a strip of businesses within a shopping area, located on Blodgett Street at La Branch Street.

The Houston Fire Department said the fire started shortly after 2 a.m. with the first of their crews on the scene finding heavy flames shooting from the roof and the frontal areas of the businesses. A food mart, an art gallery, and furniture store located nearby were also at risk for catching fire. There were no injuries reported at the time of this report and authorities continue their cause of the blaze.
