HOUSTON (AP) — Road crews have been working to cover a 15-foot-wide sinkhole on a Houston street.

People living nearby called public workers officials Tuesday when the sinkhole began to open as vehicles drove over the spot. Traffic has been diverted.

Neighbor Netsey Preston raised concerns that a vehicle could hit the spot and flip.

Officials are checking whether a water main leak caused the street to give way. Crews planned to fit a steel plate over the hole.

Nobody has been hurt.
